Los Angeles: Robbery-Homicide Detectives are seeking the public’s help with any information leading to the identification and apprehension of the person or persons responsible for the multiple shooting of two boys and two young men.
On Friday, June 30, 2006, at about 4:30 p.m., officers responded to a radio call regarding shots being fired in the 1100 block of East 49th Street. When the officers arrived, they saw four male Hispanics lying on the sidewalk. Each of the victims had multiple gunshot wounds. The Los Angles Fire Department responded to treat the victims, but 10 year old David Marcial, 17 year old Luis Cervantes, and 22 year old Larry Marcial were all pronounced dead at the scene. The only surviving victim, 12 year old Sergio Marcial Jr. was rushed to a local hospital. His condition has stabilized. David and Sergio Jr. are the nephews of Larry Marcial. Luis is a neighbour and family friend of the Marcials.
Preliminary witness information revealed that a large model, dark colored passenger vehicle was traveling on 49th Street and pulled up next to the victims who were gathered on the sidewalk. Two gunmen got out of the vehicle and began firing at the victims with rifles, hitting all four. The gunmen returned to the vehicle that was waiting for them and drove away from the scene westbound on 49th Street, then possibly northbound on Central Avenue.
The suspects remained at large and are described as two male Blacks, 18-20 years old. The description of a possible third suspect who stayed in the vehicle is uncertain.
There is still no clear motive for the crime, but detectives believe the attack was not motivated by race.
