On November 4, 1999, at 9:00 P.M., North Hollywood Patrol Officers responded to a radio call at the McDonald’s Restaurant located in the 12900 block of Victory Boulevard. The officers were met by a patron of the business who stated that while in the men’s restroom he observed a hidden video camera inside a 12-inch by 12-inch air conditioning vent. The patron notified the store manager and contacted the police.
The contents of the videotape will not be known until the scientific analysis of the evidence is completed.
The Department has contacted the McDonald’s Corporate Office and advised them of the occurrence. McDonald’s is fully cooperating with the investigation and has assigned personnel to visually inspect every restroom within the region for similar devices.
The use of a video camera to invade a person’s privacy violates 647(k) of the Penal Code and is classified as a misdemeanor.
North Hollywood Vice officers Al Hammond and Paul Espinosa are conducting the investigation.
