Hit-and-Run Traffic Collision Kills Pedestrian Crossing the Street
West Los Angeles Area: The Los Angeles Police Department’s West Traffic Division detectives are seeking the public’s help in identifying the driver of a vehicle that struck and killed a 70-year-old man crossing the street.
On Monday, April 14, 2025, around 10:35 p.m., the victim was crossing Westwood Boulevard, just north of Exposition Boulevard and outside of a marked crosswalk, when he was struck by a dark blue Mazda hatchback traveling at a high rate of speed. The driver of the Mazda failed to stop, identify themselves, and render aid as required by law, and fled the scene.
The Los Angeles Fire Department’s paramedics responded to the scene and attempted life saving measures, however the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at scene.
The male pedestrian was identified as a 70-year-old Los Angeles area resident. His identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification.
Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves.
The public is also reminded that as pedestrians, they should exercise caution when crossing streets, obey traffic lights, cross within marked crosswalks, and obey the rules of the road.
On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $25,000 is available to community members that provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
