On January 12, 2025, around 12:50 a.m., the victim, identified as 41-year-old Joshua David Hathaway, was walking on 3rd Street when he was struck by a white 2018-2022 Honda Accord that was travelling west on 3rd Street from Lucas Avenue. The driver of the vehicle continued driving west on 3rd Street and fled the location, failing to stop and identify him/herself, and/or render aid as required by law.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and transported Hathaway to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The investigation is still ongoing. Detectives have canvassed the areas around the incident location and obtained CCTV footage that captures the suspect’s vehicle. Video of the incident can be viewed here Lapdonline.org.
Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves.
The public is also reminded that as pedestrians, they should exercise caution when crossing streets, obey traffic lights, cross within marked crosswalks, and obey the rules of the road.
On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members that provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
