Hit and Run Traffic Collision Leaves Pedestrian Dead NR18060dm

Los Angeles: Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Traffic Division are asking for the public’s help in providing any information that would lead to the identification and arrest of the suspect involved in a hit and run traffic collision that killed a pedestrian.

On February 17, 2018, around 5:55 a.m., a driver struck a pedestrian on Crenshaw Boulevard near the Santa Monica Freeway. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and render aid to the pedestrian, as required by law, and fled south on Crenshaw Boulevard.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and pronounced the pedestrian dead at scene. The victim has been identified as 73-year-old Filemon Renteria, a resident of Los Angeles.

The vehicle involved is believed to be a white 2015-2018 Toyota Highlander. There is no suspect information.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit and Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members who provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
