On January 21, 2018, at 4:50 a.m., Hollenbeck patrol officers responded to an “Ambulance Shooting” radio call at a homeless encampment situated along the Arroyo Seco Flood Control Channel. The encampment was located on the east side of the Interstate 110 Harbor Freeway, between Avenue 52 and Via Marisol. Upon arrival, officers discovered two victims of gunshot wounds.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and pronounced Duarte dead at scene. The second victim, a 29-years-old male, was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
There is no suspect description.
