Los Angeles: On December 18, 2011, around 12:45 a.m., LAPD Harbor Area Patrol officers responded to a shooting call on Mesa Street and 22nd Street. When they arrived they discovered a man on the ground suffering from gunshot wounds. Los Angeles Fire Department rescue personnel responded and transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Harbor Homicide detectives’ investigation revealed that a man,described as a 48-year-old white male, was standing on the sidewalk talking with friends on Mesa Street, north of 22nd Street, when an SUV drove up and stopped near him. A man got out of the vehicle, approached and shot him multiple times with a handgun. The suspect, described as a black male, got back into the SUV and drove away from the scene. The motive for the shooting is unknown and the name of the victim is being withheld until notification of next of kin.
