“Homicide Victim Found on Christmas Eve”
Los Angeles – On Sunday, December 24, 2000 at 8:59 a.m., Mark Eugene Black, age 31, was found shot to death to the rear of 5111 South Long Beach Avenue. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso and was pronounced dead at the scene. The call originated from a phone booth by an unidentified caller.
Residents in the area reported hearing several gunshots at approximately 4:00 a.m. The victim appeared to have been dead for several hours and it is assumed that he was shot at approximately 4:00 a.m., at the time when shots were heard. The victim had recently moved from the area, but still frequented the neighborhood and was last seen by friends at approximately 1:30 a.m.
The motive is unknown at this time. No suspects have been identified.
