To honor Officer Walter R. Kreps, the first LAPD motor officer to die in the line of duty.
Officer Kreps was assigned to the Department’s Speed Squad at the time of the tragic accident. Officer Kreps was also the first officer to die in a traffic collision involving another police vehicle.
Officer Kreps was buried at the Angelus-Rosedale Cemetery, due to unknown reasons, his gravesite was never properly marked with a gravestone. It is with great honor that the LAPD will give the long awaited grave marker to this fallen hero. Chief Charlie Beck, along with Department motor personnel, will escort Officer Kreps family members from the Police Administrative Building to the Angelus Rosedale Cemetery for a ceremony and formal presentation of Officer Kreps gravestone.
