WHY:
Hyundai Corporation and Los Angeles Police Department have collaborated to conduct security software updates for Hyundai owners in the greater Los Angeles area. There is no charge, and no appointment is required. The process takes approximately 30 minutes to update the anti-theft protection software. Attendees will also receive a complimentary steering wheel lock, to further prevent their vehicles from being stolen.

In addition, this community event will also feature VIN Etching, with the newly acquired Insta-Etch Mark 3 etching device that was obtained with Grant Funds. This marking device represents the state of the art for etching VIN numbers as it is hand-held, portable and Bluetooth enabled.

This is a “Best Practice” for catalytic converter theft prevention. LAPD has received (4) devices from the Auto Club of California. LAPD will announce that the program was approved by the Police Chief, Police Commission, the Mayor and the City Council. These devices will be distributed citywide, and all 21 geographic areas will be conducting similar VIN etching events around the city.

Detective Ventura will be on hand to answer questions regarding Grand Theft Auto and Catalytic Converter thefts trends. He will address the best anti-theft strategies available.
