Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department in partnership with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Department of Homeland Security, and the National Counterterrorism Center will host a two-day workshop on terrorism and how law enforcement, first responders and other civilian stakeholders can remain vigilant and partner together to root out those who conspire to harm our communities and great nation. The conference will begin on Tuesday, July 31, at the JW Marriott Hotel Diamond Ballroom, L.A. LIVE, 900 West Olympic Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90015.
Long before 9-11, we have faced threats from individuals and groups that wish to impose terror on our communities. The events of 9-11 solidified in many minds that the threat of terrorism is real and upon our doorstep. The recent tragedy in Colorado is a sobering reminder that terrorism can come from within our community and we must work collectively to find ways to prevent such incidents from occurring.
LAPD is a regional leader in counter terrorism, prevention and response in this Southern California region. Our ability to defeat the threat and respond to any incidents is incumbent upon our ability to work together as a region.
The Joint Counter Terrorism Awareness Workshop Series (JCTAWS) is a ground breaking effort to bring together hundreds of partners in the public and private sector to address and discuss the potential threats to communities. JCTAWS brings together the leaders in counter terrorism, tactics, fire, emergency management, and the private sector in a collaborative fashion.
The purpose of JCTAWS is to improve the way we prevent, analyze and respond to threats and attacks as a region. The strategies and tactics reflect a regional vision rather than a city specific plan. This year’s JCTAWS conference will be the largest in the United States to date.
This is a private event, and members of the public will not be admitted. Credentialed members of the media are welcome to attend the media briefing and opening remarks beginning promptly at 8:00 am, in the Diamond Ballroom Lobby, JW Marriot Hotel, 900 West Olympic Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90015.
