Los Angeles: A Los Angeles police dog named Luca captured a criminal who eluded police by hiding in a yard of a home on June 8, 2008.
At 6:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to a call of a possible kidnap in the 1500 block of Menlo Avenue. When the officers arrived, they spotted a man who matched the description of a suspect they were looking for. The man ran from the officers, and a perimeter was established. A police dog was summoned to search for the suspect. During the search, Luca found 27-year-old Roberto Arredondo and bit him in the arm as he refused to surrender. The suspect was then taken into custody and transported to California Hospital where he was admitted for surgery on his arm.
Police found Arredondo’s loaded .38 caliber revolver and booked it as evidence.
Neither the officer nor Luca were injured, and Arredondo will be charged with home invasion robbery and kidnapping charges.
Force Investigation Division will handle the investigation.
