Kick off of LAPD 140th Anniversary

Los Angeles: On December 31, 2008, at 9:00 a.m., Chief Bratton will kick off the 140th anniversary at the graduation of the recruit class of July 2008 at the Elysian Park field.
As a special guest, present at the graduation will be Retired Deputy Chief Harold Sullivan. Chief Sullivan is the second oldest living LAPD retiree. Chief Sullivan was appointed to the Department on January 2, 1937, and retired on February 1, 1967. He currently lives in the City of Los Angeles.
During Chief of Police William H. Parker’s last year, Chief Sullivan was the Acting Chief of Police while Chief Parker was ill. After leaving the Department, he was appointed as the Commissioner for the California Highway Patrol, at that time under Governor Ronald Reagan.
