LAPD Civilian Employee Arrested for Identity Theft

Los Angeles: On October 1, 2003, a Los Angeles Police Department civilian employee was arrested for Identify Theft. The employee was implicated in a theft ring via information provided through the "We Tip" organization.
Investigators from the LAPD’s Professional Standards Bureau disclosed that Felicia Wynne, a records clerk at the Southeast Area Community Police Station, had utilized credit under another person’s name to acquire cellular telephones and computers. Wynne was part of a theft ring, which surreptitiously obtained identification and credit information from unsuspecting victims, she then utilized that information to acquire credit in those people’s names. Merchandise was ordered and delivered to pre-arranged delivery points.
The investigation disclosed that the stolen identity information did not come from Department resources accessible by Wynne through her employment with the Los Angeles Police Department.
The ring, involving several suspects, is the subject of an on-going criminal investigation. The Professional Standards Bureau investigators have identified approximately 48 potential victims, with some in other states, and one in Spain. The losses to the victims have been documented and exceed $100,000. Wynne was arrested at the Southeast Area Police Station and was booked at the 77th Street Regional Jail facility.
