Los Angeles- Acting in the true faith of it’s commitment to having a police department which reflects the racial and gender population of the City it serves, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) will proudly announce several important Departmental promotions at a press conference to be held on January 24, 2002.
These promotions, indeed historic and groundbreaking, will confirm the Department’s commitment to promoting the best-qualified personnel to positions of increased responsibilities. The Department will announce the promotions of two deputy chiefs, five commanders and ten captains. These men and women mirror the diverse communities of Los Angeles. The significant number of promotions will allow the Chief of Police to address management issues, as numerous managers will be assigned to new commands.
In the history of the LAPD, there have been a total of eight female captains. This instance is historic from the standpoint that four females are being promoted to the rank of captain, at one time.
For the first time in its history, the LAPD will have its first Chinese-American Captain. Additionally, newly promoted Commander Paul Kim will be recognized as the first Asian-American Staff Officer in the Department’s history.
Other promotions and upgrades, scheduled to be announced, are as equally exciting and dynamic in importance to the City of Los Angeles.
