ABOUT THE LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPATMENT’S HOLLENBECK PAL:
The Hollenbeck Police Activities League (PAL) is hosting its 7th annual Awards Gala to raise funds to provide Hollenbeck Area youths and their parents with resources, services and the support needed to help raise healthy and successful children. The Awards Gala hopes to raise $250,000 to serve 1,000 children.
Whether it was in Newtown, CT, Boston, MA or this week in Moore, OK, there were numerous stories about the heroism displayed by local law enforcement. Without concern for their own personal safety, they ‘ran towards the gun shots, exploding bombs or crumbling buildings to save men, women and children at the height of occurring life-threatening events.
While their dedication to making the quality of life for everyone in their communities safer is unparalleled, their commitment does not stop there. All across the country, there are examples of law enforcement officers and officials giving back to their communities on their own time and out of their own pockets. The Hollenbeck Police Activities League is a shining example of our police heroes rising above and beyond to give back.
In addition to elected officials and Law Enforcement officers of all ranks, joining us will be Larry King to receive the organization’s Leadership Award and the Good News Girls – Wendy Burch, Christine Devine, Dorothy Lucey, Ana Garcia and Leslie Miller to receive the Humanitarian Award for all that they do, and Wells Fargo receiving The PAL of The Year Award.
For over 20 years, Hollenbeck PAL, the largest of all of the LAPD’s 21 divisions, has been helping youth, regardless of their ethnic background or economic status, make positive changes in their lives by teaching them healthy life –style principles, providing them with positive role-models, instilling in them the concept of teamwork, building in them the qualities of sportsmanship, and providing them with opportunities to gain and exercise leadership skills. Hollenbeck PAL provides safe places throughout the community where children can recreate and learn safely during non-school hours while providing meaningful, structured activities to every child in the service area. Hollenbeck PAL serves nearly 1,000 children and 300 parents each year and depends on the outstanding support of nearly 100.
Since its founding in 1992, the LAPD HPAL has served well over 18,000 kids with life-skills programs to assist them in being law abiding, responsible young people and adults.
