LAPD Motorcycle Officer Seriously Injured in Traffic Collision

Anaheim – On Tuesday, August 14, 2000, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Los Angeles Police Officer Michael Almasy, a six-year veteran, was traveling southbound on the Santa Ana (Interstate 5) Freeway at Lincoln in the City of Anaheim when he spotted a stranded motorist along side the Freeway. As Officer Almasy attempted to change lanes to assist the motorist, he was rear ended by a male motorist who was driving a Dodge Ram pick up truck. Officer Almasy was ejected from his motorcycle at which time he collided with the roadway. He was transported to UC Irvine Medical Center where he was treated for a broken clavicle, multiple fractures in his back and various internal injuries. Officer Almasy remains hospitalized and is listed in serious but stable condition. The driver of the other vehicle did not complain of injuries at the time of the investigation, and was not suspected of being under the influence of alcohol at the time of this collision.

This investigation is being conducted by the California Highway Patrol, Westminster Area Station.
