Los Angeles: Police Officer II William Rodriguez, a ten-year veteran with the Los Angeles Police Department and most recently assigned to Valley Traffic Division, was arrested on July 16, 2019, on multiple sexual assault charges. The Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery Homicide Division, Sexual Assault Section, conducted an investigation that stemmed from a reported sexual assault involving an acquaintance in November of 2018.
The subsequent investigation led to the discovery of Rodriguez’s involvement in a second sexual assault that occurred in August of 2015. Rodriguez was positively identified through a, “Cold hit” notification through the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS). These assaults occurred when Rodriguez was off duty.
Rodriguez is currently in custody and has been relieved of his Police powers. Los Angeles Police Department Chief of Police Michel Moore stated, “When one of our own breaks the trust of the people we are sworn to protect and to serve, it tarnishes the badge we all wear proudly on our chests. This arrest also reflects our commitment to pursue every lead no matter where the investigation takes us.”
