Los Angeles: On May 21, 2005 at about 10:20 p.m., the driver of a 1997 burgundy Honda Accord, was driving south on Crocker Street. When he didn’t stop for the stop sign at 7th Street, the Honda hit a 1999 blue Toyota Corolla that was going east on 7th Street. The impact of the two cars forced the Toyota to collide with a 1995 white Honda Odyssey that was stopped at the stop sign, northbound on Crocker Street.
The driver of the Honda Accord left the car and ran from the crash without identifying himself or rendering aid to the victims. The investigation has revealed that the Honda Accord had been stolen in a carjacking in Rampart Area about one hour before the accident. The carjacking happened in a gas station parking lot at 1205 S. Alvarado Street.
The suspect driving the stolen Honda is described as a male Hispanic in his late 20’s, standing about 5’8" – 6’0" tall, wearing a black shirt and blue jeans. The suspect also has a head injury.
Both victims were taken to local hospitals to be treated for their injuries. Unfortunately, the driver of the Toyota Corolla died as a result of his injuries.
The deceased has been identified as 40 year-old Joseph Charles Winterer, a resident of Santa Monica.
