LAPD Website Translates into 14 Languages

Los Angeles: A new feature on www.lapdonline.org, the Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) website, allows readers to navigate in 14 languages.

On January 16, 2009, the LAPD activated 14 language translation links on their website, www.lapdonline.org.  In accordance with widely accepted standards in language translation, all one has to do is click on a national flag of a country.  The desired information will be translated into the predominant language spoken in that country.  The following languages are currently available: Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Hebrew, Russian, Korean, Italian, French, Tagalog, German and Vietnamese.  This outreach effort to the diverse communities will promote mutual understanding and respect.  Whether a community member is learning English or any one of the 14 languages, or even if the visitor to the site simply prefers another language, this new addition to the LAPD website can be informative, educational and fun.
