Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department will host the Annual Community-Police Advisory Board (C-PAB) Summit at the historic Park Plaza (Terrace Room). Community Police Advisory Boards were established in 1993 as way to promote more effective communication between the communities of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Police Department. Many C-PABs feature sub-committees that address quality of life issues such as traffic, graffiti and homelessness. This year’s Summit will celebrate 10 years of partnership between C-PABs and the LAPD. Each of the 18 community police stations have an advisory board, with elected board members who work in partnership with the commanding officer to address crime and quality of life concerns.
Following a buffet style breakfast, the event will kick off with opening ceremonies that will feature remarks by Los Angeles Police Commission Vice President David Cunningham III and keynote address by Chief of Police William Bratton. Captain Charlie Beck, the newly appointed commanding officer of Rampart Area, will serve as the Master of Ceremonies.
The Summit will feature several interactive breakout sessions. Among the topics covered will be TEAMWORK LA, the 311 non-emergency service-related phone line and Gang Impact Teams. Additionally there will be a discussion on "conducting effective meetings." Each of the sessions will focus on the role that C-PAB members and the community can play in making Los Angeles the safest big city in America. The LAPD’s Historical Society Mobile Museum will also be part of the day’s festivities. Attendees will have the opportunity to view the many historical photographs and features.
