"Liquor Store Shooting in 77th Street Area"
Los Angeles: On Sunday, July 22, 2001, at approximately 11:40 p.m., victim #1, a female Korean, 13 years old was behind the cash register of her father’s liquor store, located at 2301 West 54th Street. Victim #2 entered the location to make a purchase. Suspects #1 and #2, described only as two male Blacks, 20 to 25 years old, were already in the store and had purchased a bottle of beer. One of the suspects dropped the bottle of beer causing it to break. The suspects engaged in an argument with a witness regarding the broken bottle of beer be replaced for a new one. Victim #2 was standing behind the two suspects during this argument. The witness agreed to replace the broken bottle. The two suspects and victim #2 began to exit the store.
Upon reaching the doorway, an argument between the suspects’ and victim #2 occurred. Without provocation, suspect #1 armed himself with an unknown type handgun and began shooting. One of the rounds struck victim #1 in the shoulder and another round struck victim #2 in the upper torso.
The Los Angeles Fire Department Rescue personnel responded and transported both victims to a local hospital. Both victims remain in stable condition.
The suspect(s) and the weapon remain outstanding.
