WHY:
The Los Angeles Police Department Northeast Division area aims to provide awareness information to the public of products that help prevent catalytic converter thefts. LAPD Northeast Auto Detectives and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office Taskforce for Regional Auto Theft Prevention (TRAP) will etch VIN numbers onto the catalytic converters of anyone who requests the service. Steering Wheel locks will also be distributed to all who attend the event.
The event will feature a static display of tools used by catalytic converter theft rings, catalytic converters recovered from recent arrests, and vendor information on hand with catalytic converter anti-theft devices.
The first 3 Toyota Prius owners will receive a free catalytic converter shield.
The event is sponsored by Los Angeles City Councilmember Kevin de Leon from Council District 14, Automobile Club of Southern California, and Cat Security.
