Man Shot and Killed While Driving on the Freeway

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department’s 77th Street Area Homicide Detectives are investigating the murder of 27 year-old Jamal Washington, a male Black.
On Thursday, May 8, 2003, at 11:45 p.m., Washington and a companion were driving a blue-green, 1996, Toyota Paseo, 2-door, California license plate number, 3UJL779. Washington’s companion was the driver and Washington was seated in the right/front seat. As they were traveling southbound on the Harbor Freeway approaching Slauson Avenue, unknown suspect(s) driving a possible black, 250 Ford Pickup Truck drove up alongside of them and began shooting at them.
Washington sustained a gunshot wound to his chest. Washington was subsequently transported by his companion to Centinela Hospital in Inglewood, where Washington succumbed to his injuries. Washington’s companion did not sustain any injuries. The suspect(s) were last seen southbound Harbor Freeway between Slauson Avenue and Florence Avenue.
The motive for this shooting is unknown. The suspect(s) and weapon remain outstanding.
