Los Angeles: An armed and dangerous man suspected of attempt murder, kidnapping and sexual assault was shot by plainclothes detectives in Long Beach on July 5, 2009.
Shortly after 5:30 p.m., two plainclothes detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department were participating in an undercover operation near 15th Street and Pacific Avenue, on a suspect identified as Angel Samos, 29. According to investigators, Samos was wanted for his involvement in a series of violent crimes. Samos was spotted running from the area with a handgun. When the detectives attempted to take him into custody, Samos turned towards them and was shot and wounded.
Samos was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
None of the detectives were injured, authorities said.
Investigators recovered a loaded semi-automatic handgun from the scene.
Samos has been booked for attempt murder and is being held in lieu of $95,000 bail.
Force Investigation Division will handle the officer involved shooting and Robbery-Homicide Division will handle the criminal investigation.
