Multiple Victims Shot; One Dies

Los Angeles: On Sunday, July 4, 2004, at about 9:20 p.m., 20 year-old Durand Sipple was standing on the sidewalk in the 4700 block of August Street with friends enjoying a firework show taking place at a nearby park. A silver 2000 Honda Accord, 4-door, pulled up and stopped in front of Sipple and his friends.
One of the occupants from the Honda fired several rounds from an unknown type firearm. Sipple and three additional victims were struck with gunfire. The suspects then sped away from the location.
Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded and transported Sipple to a local hospital where he died a short time later from his injuries. The three other victims were treated for non-life threatening gunshot wounds.
The motive is unknown, but the shooting appears to be gang related. The shooter was only described as a male Black.
