"National Night Out Media Advisory"
National Night Out (NNO) is an annual event where law enforcement, in conjunction with the community, participate in providing a safe gathering place for the night against crime or criminal activities. This year’s NNO activities are scheduled for Tuesday, August 1, 2000, between 7:00 P M, and 10:00 P M.
Police Stations throughout the City have coordinated efforts to participate in this event with members of their Neighborhood Watch groups, Community-Police Advisory Boards or volunteer group within the "Area Station." Suggestions for events can included, cook-outs, block parties, having a specific Reporting District turn their porch lights on, the placing of lighting of a specific color at their homes (i.e., blue light represent law enforcement), or open houses at area stations.
The planned activities are as follows:
Hollywood Area- Hotdog cookout, and safety awareness fair, Hollywood Station Parking Lot;
Hollenbeck Area- Youth rally march, Salesian Boys and Girls’ Club, 4th Street and Breed Street;
West Los Angeles Area- Porch light illumination, Various Reporting Districts;
Pacific Area- Fair at the Boys and Girls Club of Venice; 2223 Lincoln Boulevard;
Wilshire Area- Neighborhood association march with Basic Car 7A29, 2nd Street and Havard Ave;
North Hollywood Area- Block party, 11200 block of Covello Street, blue porch light illumination, 4600 block of Laurel Grove Avenue;
Van Nuys Area- Porch light illumination, various Reporting Districts;
West Valley Area- Ice cream give away, caravan and porch light illumination, neighborhood round up, area of Lubao Avenue and Hart Street;
Foothill Area- Various community barbecues and gatherings, Stonehurst Park, Liberty Temple Church of God, Palabra De Vida Church, Community Christian Church of the Foothills, and Osborne Church;
Devonshire Area- Porch light illumination, Various Reporting Districts;
Harbor Area- Various barbecue site, Community Service Center, 1522 West Pacific Coast Highway, Harbor City, The Beacon House Association, 1003 South Beacon Street, San Pedro, Park Western Estates, 1327 Park Western Drive #1, San Pedro;
Southeast Area- Operation porch light, various Reporting Districts;
77th Street Area- Operation porch light, various Reporting Districts;
Southwest Area- Various planned events, locations unknown;
Northeast Area- Operation porch light, various Reporting Districts.
