"No-Hits Officer Involved Shooting "

Los Angeles – On Saturday, November 4, 2000, at approximately 4:45 p.m., the Hollenbeck Area Community Police Station Watch Commander was contacted by the City of Pasadena Police Department and advised of a truck that had been reported stolen in Pasadena. The information identified the suspect as William R. Gallock, and included the suspect’s physical description, vehicle description, and the address where the suspect was possibly headed in Hollenbeck’s area.

The information was immediately shared with Sergeant Richard Ratikis, Officer Felipe Pardo, and Officer Matthew Valencia. Together they developed a plan of action to take the suspect into custody in the event he appeared at the location indicated.

At approximately 5:15 p.m., Sgt. Rakitis saw the stolen truck, with two occupants, turn eastbound in the 3200 block of Eagle Street, in the direction where Officers Pardo and Valencia had deployed. Suspect William R. Gallock (a male Hispanic, 38 years of age) was the driver and Raul Morales (male Hispanic, 35 years of age) was the passenger. Sgt. Rakitis began following the truck as he broadcasted the direction of travel to the officers. The truck turned on Bernal Street from Eagle Street, Officers Pardo and Valencia activated the emergency lights of their patrol car and attempted to stop the vehicle . The suspect stopped the truck, looked to the rear, put the truck in reverse and rammed Sgt. Rakitis patrol car, causing major damage to the patrol vehicle. Officers Pardo and Valencia exited their patrol car and deployed to a position of advantage to arrest the suspect. The suspect then placed the truck into drive and drove towards Officer Valencia. An Officer Involved Shooting occurred when Officer Valencia, fearing for his life, fired one round from his service weapon at Suspect Gallock.

Although the suspect was not injured from the officer’s gunfire, Suspect Gallock stopped the truck and was taken into custody without further incident.

Gallock was booked for Assault with a Deadly Weapon/Vehicle on a Police Officer. He is being held on $50,000.00 bail. Morales was arrested for Parole Violation.

The investigation is being conducted Robbery-Homicide Division.
