On November 1, 2021, at approximately 6:08 p.m., West Los Angeles Patrol Officers were discussing tactics and the use of the Benelli shotgun in the station parking lot. One officer was showing his partner how to operate the Benelli shotgun, in the event a situation should occur during their shift. While showing his partner the functionality of the shotgun, the officer experienced a Non-Tactical Unintentional Discharge (NTUD). The shotgun round was fired into the air.
No officers were injured during this incident.
Force Investigation Division detectives responded to the scene and are investigating this incident. No impacts were discovered during the on-scene investigation.
