Officer-Involved Shooting Involving SWAT in Harbor Division NRF005-25ma

UPDATE

On February 15, 2025, the Chief of Police authorized the release of the officer’s name who was involved in an Officer-Involved Shooting that occurred on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, in Harbor Area. The involved officer is Metropolitan Division Police Officer III Daniel Nodes, Serial No. 37878.

**The following information is based on a preliminary and ongoing investigation, which continues to evolve as investigators interview witnesses, review physical and electronic records, and analyze forensic evidence. The Department’s understanding of the facts and circumstances may change as additional evidence is collected and analyzed**

Los Angeles: On February 11, 2025, at approximately 9:55 am, Harbor Division uniformed officers responded to a radio call of a “415 Man with a Gun” at Western Avenue and Lomita Boulevard. When the officers arrived in the area, they saw the suspect, later identified as 27-year-old Samuel Conde, armed with a firearm. As they attempted to contact Conde, he began to run, and the officers initiated a foot pursuit. Conde ultimately ran to the rear of a residence in the 25700 block of Belle Porte Avenue. The residence’s backyard was overgrown with foliage and large mounds of debris.

Metropolitan Division K-9 personnel responded, searched the yard, and determined that Conde was hiding inside a metal storage shed. Conde was given multiple commands to surrender; however, he refused. The officers requested the resources of Metropolitan Division’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), who responded and began negotiating with Conde to surrender. Approximately one hour later, Conde was observed in the yard holding a firearm while walking in the direction of officers, and an Officer-Involved Shooting occurred.

Despite being struck by gunfire, Conde refused to surrender, prompting the use of a beanbag shotgun, TASER, and a directed canine bite. He was subsequently taken into custody.

Los Angeles Fire Department personnel, who were staged at the scene, immediately rendered aid to Conde. He was transported by rescue ambulance to a local hospital, where he was treated for his wounds and cleared for booking. Conde was booked for 245(D)(2) Penal Code, Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Peace Officer.

No officers or other community members were injured during this incident. Conde’s firearm has not been located; however, a discharged casing was recovered in the yard near where he was taken into custody.

Force Investigation Division (FID) investigators responded to the scene and are investigating this incident.
