Los Angeles: On Monday, January 7, 2002, at approximately 10:05 p.m., the Los Angeles Police Department Communications Center received a telephone call regarding a possible burglary in progress at a Rampart Area multi-unit Residence.
Responding to the home located on the 1600 block of Toberman Street, officers were met outside by a building resident who said that there were gang members inside one of the location’s apartments. Moments later, the officers observed the three male suspects emerge from the building, walking on the driveway. Upon seeing the officers, the suspects turned around and ran back into the building.
Immediately, the officers requested a call for additional police units to respond to the location and to set up a perimeter of the incident scene. Several LAPD units, including the Metropolitan Division K-9 Unit, arrived at the crime scene to apprehend the outstanding suspects.
Standing at the perimeter’s edge, two officers observed a male suspect climb over a wall in an attempt to flee the area. The officers took the 16 year-old juvenile male into custody. Searching the interior of the building, a police dog discovered a second suspect, 20 year-old Paul Giovanny Dominguez of Los Angeles, hiding inside a storage area. The third suspect escaped and is outstanding. Officers also recovered two handguns at the scene. Conducting an investigation, officers discovered that the three suspects, in addition to being suspected of burglary and battery on several of the building residents, committed a home invasion robbery at the location. Two residents living in one the apartments said the accused men also broke into their home and threatened them with handguns.
No one was seriously injured and the captured suspects were arrested and booked for Armed Robbery.
