WHY:
Over two years ago, at the emergence of what became known as the Covid-19 pandemic, a small cadre of nine LAPD personnel (at that time all assigned to Wilshire Area) accompanied by a group of five civilian volunteers from the community, gathered together to support what was dubbed “Operation Blue Heart.”
Throughout the most risky and terrifying months of the health crisis, this dedicated group of people volunteered their personal time to run critical errands for some of the City’s most at risk residents. They picked up and delivered food, medicine, supplies for companion animals, toiletries, cleaning supplies and other necessary items, and ensured the most vulnerable among us were not forced to face unnecessary risk. This group of volunteers has been approved for much deserved Department and Police Commission recognition.
