November 29, 1999

LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Monday, November 29, 1999
On Friday, November 26, 1999, at 1:15 p.m., Pacific Area Community Police Station, in conjunction with the Woodland Hills Rotary Club, will be participating in our Annual Pacific Area Toy Drive, which will be focusing on underprivileged children in the Marvista Housing Development, and through the Slauson Community Center.

In the past, this area has been plagued with gang violence, graffiti, and narcotic activity. Children who live in the area were often afraid to play in their front yards for fear of being victimized by street hoodlums. LAPD officers and specialized units (CLEAR, CRASH) have coordinated with the Pacific Area community as well as other law enforcement agencies (Parole, Probation and the City Attorney’s/District Attorney’s Office) in order to take back the streets of Pacific Division. Due in part to their efforts, Pacific Division has enjoyed a 38% reduction in repressible crimes in the once embattled area.

Pacific Area Community Police Station, along with the Woodland Hills Rotary Club, would like to continue its tradition of serving underprivileged children in the community by participating in Pacific Divisions Annual Toy Drive. The goal of the Toy Drive to put a smile on children’s faces during this Holiday Season.

Mr. Kmiecik, who is a representative of the Woodland Hills Rotary Club, will be bringing a truck load of toys to Pacific Station. The toys will be distributed by Pacific Area officers during the Holiday Season.
