WHY:
RACR is commemorating their first open house of the Regional Crime Center
with a tribute to the Department’s fallen officers. Families of Police Officer Randal Simmons, the first LAPD Swat to be killed in the line of duty on February 7, 2008; Police Officer Spree Desha killed in the tragic Metrolink Commuter Train on September 12, 2008, and Deputy Chief Kenneth Garner who died suddenly on March 1, 2009.
RACR is also paying tribute to former Police Officer Kristina Ripatti who was paralyzed during a shoot-out with a parolee on June 3, 2006 and a personal tribute to RACR’s own Police Officer Felipe Gonzales who is returning to duty after receiving a Bronze Star for his courageous actions, duties and responsibilities while in a combat zone in Iraq.
Those attending the event will tour the Crime Center and see firsthand the numerous resources that the Crime Center has to offer in working and sharing the common goal of reducing crime in their communities.
