Tuesday, July 27, 1999Rampart Homicide Detectives are investigating the shooting death of Eugene Yungerlevi, a male Caucasian 39 years of age.
On July 27, 1999 at approximately 1120 hours residents of the apartment complex located at 2500 West 4th Street heard some noises coming from the second floor of the building and observed two men running through the front gate of the complex onto 4th Street. The residents alerted the apartment manager, who in turn checked the area. The manager observed four bullet holes in the door of apartment 202 and notified the police.
Rampart Uniform Officers responded to the location and made entry into the apartment. The officers located the victim by the front door. The victim had sustained multiple gunshot wounds about the body. Paramedics were summoned and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
The investigation revealed that the suspects confronted the victim at the door and immediately fired upon him. Some rounds struck the front door of the apartment. All the rounds were fired by the suspects.
The suspects are described as two male Hispanics. One suspect was 22 to 25 years of age, 5’5" or 5’6" tall, 170 to 175 pounds, dark complexion and wearing a dark long sleeve shirt. The second suspect was 18 to 22 years of age, 5’3" to 5’4" tall and 150 pounds. He was wearing a gray T-shirt. The suspects ran to a gray colored early 80’s small vehicle that fled eastbound on 4th Street.
Detectives have not established a motive for this crime at this time.
