"Rampart Homicide Detectives Investigate the Death of a 28 Year Old Male Hispanic"
Los Angeles: On November 4, 2001 at approximately 9:40 p.m., Rampart Patrol officers observed a male staggering on the sidewalk and fall to the ground. Officers requested Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics to respond because the male was unconscious and had sustained a stab wound to his upper torso. Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim and his companion were driving on Olympic Boulevard at Burlington Road, when they stopped to assist a female who they believed was being assaulted. The victim stopped to render assistance, at which time, the suspect, who was also involved in the confrontation with the female, stabbed the victim once in the upper torso.
The suspect fled the scene on foot and was pursued by the victim’s companion. The suspect has been identified as Bryant Swinton, a male Black, black hair, brown eyes, 6’4, 180 lbs., 37 years of age. The suspect was armed with a knife. The suspect is a transient and frequents the area where the crime occurred.
The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
