Revenge Porn Suspect Arrested NR16284jh

September 12, 2016

Reseda: Detectives from the Los
Angeles Police Department West Valley Division, Sex Crimes Unit
detectives have arrested 32-year-old Sergio Ortiz. Ortiz was
arrested for 647(j)4 A of the Penal Code – Distribute Private Image
of Intimate Body Part(s) of Another. Detectives are asking for the
public’s help in locating additional individuals who may have been
victims of Sergio Ortiz.

Sergio
Ortiz has been charged by the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office
with uploading a video of himself and the victim having sexual
intercourse onto an online pornographic website. The victim did not
agree to her image being uploaded onto the Internet and was only
made aware of the video through a co-worker. The victim is
suffering tremendous emotional distress and humiliation at work, as
well as among friends and family, after Ortiz posted the video of
the two of them having sexual intercourse.

Ortiz met the victim through an online dating website. At some
point, they mutually agreed to have sex together, and Ortiz took
the victim back to his residence. While having sex, he began to
video the victim who reluctantly agreed. However, the victim told
Ortiz to delete the video afterwards. After the victim severed ties
with Ortiz, he uploaded a video of them having sex onto an adult
website without her consent.
The investigation reveals that Ortiz uploaded additional
pornographic videos and images of other women, all of whom have not
been identified. It is not known at this time whether these women
consented to having these videos uploaded and made public on the
Internet.

California Governor Jerry Brown signed into law SB 255, or the
“Revenge Porn” bill, on October 1, 2013. The law makes it a crime
to post sexually explicit pictures or videos online of another
person without his or her permission with the intent to cause
emotional distress or to publicly humiliate the victim. With the
explosion of smart phone technology and the prevalence of social
networking, the increase of “Revenge Porn” has become an alarming
social phenomenon.
