Robber Returns to the Scene of the Crime
On Tuesday, January 22, 2000, at 2:40 p.m., an armed, robbery suspect entered the Jet Stream Liquor Store, located at 10922 Vanowen Street, North Hollywood, California. The suspect, a male, white in his forties, threatened the store clerk at gunpoint and demanded money. Taking approximately $1,000, the suspect fled from the location in a white Ford Escort possibly driven by a female accomplice.
A few minutes later, while North Hollywood Patrol Officers were interviewing the store employees, they observed a man fitting the suspect’s description come into the liquor store and attempt to buy a bottle of liquor. Witnesses at the store identified the man as the robbery suspect and he was quickly arrested by the officers.
A handgun was recovered from the suspect’s waistband, in addition to $826.00 in cash. The female accomplice was arrested as she waited in the white Ford Escort in front of the store.
The investigation revealed that after the suspect had committed the robbery and driven away, he decided he wanted to buy more liquor with the stolen money. After driving around, while intoxicated and unfamiliar with the area, the suspect entered the same liquor store without realizing it was the one he had just robbed.
The male suspect is identified as George Jones, 49 years old, a resident of Glendale.
Both suspects were booked for Robbery; however, the woman was later released as it was determined she had no knowledge of the crime.
