Robber Shot and Killed by Owner

Los Angeles: Central Area Homicide Unit is investigating the shooting death of a 20-year-old robbery suspect, who was shot by the owner of a jewelry store.
On Monday, November 7, 2005, at about 1:55 PM, a shooting call was generated at 415 West 7th Street. Two suspects entered the jewelry store posing as customers. Once inside the location, one of the suspects pulled out a handgun and ordered the store owner to turn over money at gun point. Fearing for his life, the store owner attempted to disarm the suspect and a fight broke out over the gun.
The store owner broke free and ran to the rear of the store, as the suspect fired several shots at him. The store owner armed himself with a handgun and returned fire striking both suspects numerous times.
The armed suspect failed to respond to treatment and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other suspect received gunshot wounds to his arm and abdomen area and was taken to the USC Medical Center. He underwent emergency surgery and remains in critical condition. The store owner was treated for multiple lacerations to the arms, back and chest from smashed glass particles.
The deceased suspect has been identified as 20-year-old Alvin Mack of South Los Angeles. The injured suspect was booked for murder and has no bail due to him being on active parole. His name is Dante McCoy, 24 years of age, also from South Los Angeles.
