WHY:
Southeast Area will have their first Community Street Carnival in conjunction with LAPD Communication Division (911 operators). The purpose for this carnival is to raise funds for the youth programs in our area. 100% of the funds raised will be used to provide funding for the numerous programs such as, field trips, anti-bullying events, surf camp, annual tea party, cadet competitions, sports teams, and educational workshops. Approximately three years ago Southeast Area Commanding Officer, Captain Tingirides expressed his concerns about the lack of extracurricular activities for the youth in the community (South LA and Watts). In the past three years officers have worked hard to increase the programs and provide numerous and opportunities to travel, go to professional sporting events (Lakers, Kings, and Dodgers etc.) and many other activities. The increased popularity of the Southeast Youth Programs our numbers have grown from 200 kids to approximately 1000 kids. The youth programs have had a significant decrease in juvenile crimes in the past three years. The carnival tickets sold will help increase the services and programs we provided our youth.
