Stolen Merchandise From Airfreight Cargo Recovered From Search Warrants

Westchester, Calif.: On January 26, 2000, investigators from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Airport Detail served search warrants at three residences throughout Los Angeles County. The searches stem from an investigation into the ongoing theft of valuable airfreight from cargo companies doing business at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Working in conjunction with private industry, four suspects were identified and a hundred of pieces of stolen merchandise were recovered. The suspects, all of whom are current or former employees of a cargo company at LAX, are believed to be responsible for several million dollars in cargo theft over several years. Criminal charges are pending against all four suspects.

The investigation is being conducted by Airport Detail under the command of Lieutenant Bill Williams, Officer-in-Charge, Airport Detail.
