San Pedro: The Los Angeles Police Department’s Harbor Area Homicide Detectives arrested the suspect responsible for the shooting death of 17-year-old, Kayla Yolanda Huerta.
On June 18, 2018, at approximately 2:25 a.m., Ms. Huerta was with a group of people in the 700 block of Sepulveda Street in San Pedro. The suspect was part of the group when he became upset at something that was said. The suspect then shot Ms. Huerta and fled the area on foot. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and attempted to render aid; however, Kayla died from her injuries.
During the course of their investigation, Homicide Detectives, identified the suspect as Luis Aurelio Morales.
On July 2, 2018, Morales, a 25-year-old male from the city of Wilmington, California, was arrested for the murder of Ms.Huerta.
On July 2, 2018, the investigators presented the case to the Long Beach branch of the District Attorney’s Office for filing review. The Deputy District Attorney filed 1 count of murder against Morales.
