Updated: The officer involved in below incident has been identified as Police Officer II Jesus Olivares, Serial No. 33741, assigned to Wilshire Division.
Rowland Heights: On Sunday, March 25, 2015 around 12:20 a.m., an off-duty Los Angeles Department Police officer was sleeping in his home when he was awakened by a noise.
He observed what appeared to be a flashlight illuminating the interior of the residence and armed himself. Upon exiting the front door to investigate further, he saw an unfamiliar vehicle parked in his driveway. A male suddenly appeared from a walkway to the rear yard, adjacent to the driveway, and an officer involved shooting occurred. The suspect then fled the scene in the vehicle.
It is unknown whether the suspect was hit by gunfire and there were no injuries to the officer.
The Los Angeles Sheriff Department detectives are investigating the burglary. Force Investigation Division responded to the incident and will conduct a thorough investigation of the officer involved shooting.
The investigation will ultimately be reviewed by the Chief of Police, the Office of the Inspector General and Board of Police Commissioners for compliance with the Departments use-of-force policy which states that an officer’s use-of-force actions must be objectively reasonable. Additionally, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Justice System Integrity Division will conduct a comprehensive review of the facts of the officer-involved-shooting.
