Opens https://lacity.gov/directory in a new window.Downtown Los Angeles: On November 15th, 2019, around 6:00pm, the driver of a taxi picked-up a fare at Union Station. The man, ultimately the suspect, directed the taxi driver to the parking of 700 W. Cesar Chavez Street, where he stabbed him and attempted to flee in the cab. When the suspect was unable to locate the key fob, he exited and fled on foot, leaving the taxi driver to die at scene.
During the investigation, information, including an image of the suspect, gathered by Central Homicide detectives was shared with patrol officers.
On Sunday, November 17th, 2019, patrol officers were in the area the murder had occurred when they saw a man resembling the suspect in the 500 block of North Main. The man was transported to Central Police Station where he was interviewed by Homicide detectives. Based upon the totality of the evidence and investigation, the man was booked for murder. Daniel Victor Torres, 32 years old, and a resident of Los Angeles is being held on $2,000,000 bail, pending arraignment on Tuesday, November 19, 2019.
