Los Angeles: Armed suspects who ran from police pointed a rifle at officers resulted in an officer involved shooting.
On Saturday, November 29, 2008, Harbor Division Officers Gregg Jacobus, 9 years and 10 months with the Department and his partner, Daniel Subia, 1 year and 4 months with the Department were patrolling Grand Avenue and 3rd Street.
At about 7:15 p.m., they observed two men dressed in dark clothing walking southbound on Grand Avenue. Suspect-one, later identified as 37-year-old Adrian Acosta, was carrying what appeared to be an assault rifle. The officers attempted to make contact with the suspects, but the men continued walking, ignoring the officers and separating ways, one walking southbound and the other northbound. Acosta then suddenly began to run northbound, joining the second suspect. At one point, Acosta stopped, turned around, and raised a rifle at the officers; at which time an officer involved shooting occurred.
Neither the suspect nor the officers were injured.
The suspect’s Romanian AK assault rifle and a loaded magazine were recovered from the street.
Acosta was arrested and booked for Attempted Murder on a Police Officer and is being held without bail.
Force Investigation Division Detectives are investigating the officer-involved shooting and the crime against the officers. The second suspect is still outstanding and was only described as a male Hispanic.
