On Wednesday, January 19, 2000, at 5:10 A.M., a 12 year old female was sexually assaulted in the 16000 block of Sunset Boulevard. The victim was asleep in her residence when she was awakened by the suspect who threatened her with a knife and sexually assaulted her.
The Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division, Rape Special Section, conducted the investigation. Scent dogs from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department were utilized and alerted on the residence. Detectives conducted an investigation at that location and questioned an individual (later identified as the suspect). The individual was taken to the West Los Angeles Area Station for questioning and was later arrested for 288 (b) P.C., Lewd Act with a Child by Use of Force. A search warrant was obtained for the suspect’s residence and additional items of evidence were located.
It was through the outstanding efforts of West Los Angeles Area officers, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department scent and handlers, concerned citizens and Robbery-Homicide Division personnel that this suspect was apprehended.
The suspect has been identified Aran Modesto Chilingar, a male Caucasian, 18 years of age and a resident of Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has filed two felony charges with enhancements for the use of a weapon and sexual assault committed during a burglary.
If convicted, the suspect could receive a sentence of 31 years to life.
