Los Angeles: Early this morning, a multi agency tagger task force served 37 probation compliance checks on known taggers and gang members in the San Fernando Valley Area, that resulted in the arrest of six juveniles.
The task force operation was designed to combat and deter tagging-related vandalism and the escalation of violent crimes associated with various gangs and tagging groups in the North Hollywood Area. These crimes have increased substantially in and around local schools. The task force was comprised of multi-agencies including the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the Los Angeles Unified School District Police Department (LAUSD PD) and the Los Angeles County Probation Department.
Many of North Hollywood Area’s most prolific taggers and gang members attend local High Schools, continuation schools and are on probation. These taggers and gang members are the root cause of the violence occurring in and around schools, such as drive-by shootings, assault with deadly weapons, graffiti tagging, and battery.
Although there were only six arrests, these compliance checks were effective by letting juvenile probationers know that they will be monitored by law enforcement while on probation.
