Los Angeles: Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department’s South Traffic Division are investigating a hit and run traffic collision that killed 62-year-old Jihad Muhammad.

On Thursday, November 28, 2019, around 8:40 p.m., a white possible Audi A5 was traveling eastbound on Adams Boulevard when it collided with the victim who was standing in the street, outside the marked crosswalk, at West View Street. The Audi fled the scene. After being struck and knocked to the ground, a possible white Cadillac Seville struck the victim as he laid motionless in the street.The Cadillac fled the scene.

While a good Samaritan was attempting to render aid to the victim, a possible white/gray Ford Focus struck the victim who became lodged beneath the vehicle. That third vehicle continued eastbound on Adams Boulevard for several blocks before pulling into a gas station on the corner of Adams Boulevard and Crenshaw Boulevard. The driver, an elderly female Black, approximately 70-years-old, pulled up to the gas pumps and exited her vehicle to see what was under her vehicle.

The elderly female re-entered her vehicle and backed up, at which time the victim was dislodged from beneath the vehicle. The passenger of the vehicle exited, observed the victim on the ground, re-entered the vehicle and they fled the scene, possibly eastbound on Adams Boulevard. None of the three drivers stopped and rendered aid or identified themselves as required by law. Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should stop, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves.

Jihad Muhammad was pronounced dead at scene by the Los Angeles Fire Department.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit and Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members who provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
