On August 16, 2016, students from Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) will return to school from summer vacation. To ensure the safe passage of the students going to and from school, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) will be conducting a traffic education and enforcement task force at various schools throughout the city. The task force will be comprised of officers from traffic divisions, assigned to various schools along major thoroughfares.
The LAPD would like to remind the public to take the following actions when in the proximity of schools:
•Slow down. Schools have a school zone speed, which was designed to safeguard students. A few extra minutes in your commute could safe a student’s life. •Be alert. Many students are small in stature and are difficult to identify while driving. •Stop when approaching a bus with flashing red light lights and stop signal arm. This indicates a bus is loading or unloading students.
The task force is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Remember, everyone is encouraged to help keep our roadways safe; Report Drunk Drivers – Call 911!
