On Monday, November 22, 1999 at approximately 7:30 A.M., Charon Leslie, a male Black, 20 years of age was stopped at a tri-light signal at 8th Avenue and Slauson Avenue. He was driving his unknown year Chevrolet Corsica. Also in the vehicle were two victims, ages 17 and 15, both males.
While waiting for the light to change, a male Black suspect approached the passenger side of the victims’ vehicle. The suspect then armed himself with a possible 9-mm semi-automatic handgun and began shooting at the victims. Fearing for their safety, Leslie sped westbound Slauson Avenue to the southeast corner of Crenshaw Boulevard and Slauson Avenue where the police and rescue ambulance were summoned.
Victim Leslie sustained a gunshot wound to his right arm. He was treated at a local hospital and is in stable condition. The 17-year-old victim received gunshot wounds to his right shoulder, face area and grazing wound to his head and he is in serious but stable condition. The 15-year-old victim did not sustain any injuries.
